Russell Island Real Estate was established in 1973 when the Qld State Government sub divided the rural land into residential blocks.  The island has had a chequered history, over the years when the first developers sold one block of land and gave the second block free.  These free block were later found to be affected by tidal water.

Redland City Council over the years has rezoned the island and established a large number of conservation areas which, instead of allowing mass building, has kept the residential area to pockets with green belts throughout the island.
